In the Educational and Scientific Merchant Marine Institute, the future officers of fleet are trained, who on graduation receive the necessary competencies of ship engineers, navigators and electrician engineer. The preparation of bachelors and masters is carried out in specialties 271 "River and sea transport" and 141 " Electrical energetics, electrical engineering and electromechanics ". Within the framework of these specialties, training is provided for educational programs "Operation of sea`s power plants", "Ship navigation" and "Exploitation of ship electrical equipment and automation equipment.

Graduates have the opportunity to work as commandant in all types of sea and river vessels. The knowledge and skills acquired during the training will help them manage any modern ship systems and complexes around the world. Before the graduates have wide opportunities for employment and further professional growth in domestic and foreign shipping companies. The training of specialists is carried out using modern forms and methods of training.

During study, students undergo training and production training on the ships of the commercial and passenger fleets, receive the opportunity to receive work diplomas of watch officers
