Ancient diplomatic relations have been established between Ukraine and the People's Republic of China. Every year the cooperation of Odessa National Maritime University with higher educational institutions and enterprises of the People's Republic of China is expanding.

On April 25, 2017, was signed Agreement for Research Center of Social Development of “the Belt and Road” along countries between Institute of Sociology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences аnd Odessa National Maritime University.

During the official visit of the Delegation from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, headed by Vice-President of the Academy, Professor, Academician Li Peilin, in Odessa National Maritime University the first CASS-ONMU: Center of China Studies (COCCS) was opened and signed Agreement for cooperation between institutions, on September 14, 2018.

During the visit, representatives of the Chinese delegation took part in the Second Chinese-Ukrainian Scholars High Academic Dialogue "The Belt and Road": Innovation of Social Policies and Pragmatic Cooperation between China and Ukraine ".
